"Madhubani Classes with Avdesh" is our unique interactive online class that enables you to learn from our artist more closely and elaborately over a period of 4 weeks.
About the Session
This session would be conducted in HINDI.
Madhubani Art (or Mithila Painting) is an interesting style of Indian painting characterized by its eye-catchy geometrical patterns. It is practiced in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. This painting is done with a variety of tools, including fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks and using natural dyes and pigments.
Avdhesh Ji is here to introduce you to this art form, help you get a strong hang of the basics and help you get you to make your own compositions by presenting his years of expertise in a simplified manner.
This Monthly Learning plan consists of a total of 16 hours of learning extending onto assignments and worksheets to solidify your understanding and skills. This is designed to give you ample time to practice your assignments and the techniques for a week moving onto the next week’s agenda.
The session has been planned in such a way that people with no background in art would also enjoy the session.
Week 1 : ( 16th,17th January) An introduction to the artform - Materials and Methods used by typical Mithila Chitrakala artists- What are the different styles within Madhubani-The Motifs and Patterns- Understanding Kachni and Bharni styles - Painting 1. Assignment 1.
Week 2 : (23rd,24th January) Understanding and exploring motifs -Madhubani’s style of typical finish, bird and tree motifs. A peek into natural colors and indulging in the processes associated in composing your own painting under specific themes.
Week 3 : (30th,31st January) Understanding Godhna - Godhna is a very unique and exotic style of madhubani predominantly seen applied in the form of tattoos- elements- motifs,patterns and borders in Godhna - Painting 3. Assignment 3.
Week 4: (6th, 7th February) Understanding Human figures in madhubani- How are humans depicted? How are expressions conveyed? Telling stories with human figures and making your own compositions - Final Painting 4.
*The agenda given above is subjected to minor changes based on the pace and performance of the batch :)
- Drawing Sheets: It's ideal to have A3 but it's okay to have A4 Size Papers as well.
- Drawing Materials: Pencil/Black Gel Pen/Thin Black Marker/Fine-Liners/Fountain Pen preferably with Black Ink/00 Brush for line work
- Coloring materials Watercolor/Sketch Pens/Indian Colour Inks/Acrylics/Poster Colours.
- Scale, Eraser and a Pallet or some Plate.
About the Mentor
Avdesh Kumar Karn is a Madhubani artist from Bihar and has over 35 years of experience in this art form. He has won many prizes including the Bihar State Award for Madhubani Art in the year 2015.
He has conducted hundreds of workshops in reputed institutions and has traveled across the country to teach and spread this art form. He has broken the constraints of medium by exploring this art form on handmade paper, paper plates, walls, scrolls and so on.
